Executive Editor, Over the Wall Publishing

Responsibilities include all aspects of title production (from handwritten manuscripts to printed books), and through fulfillment and distribution into multiple sales channels.  Accomplishments include cover design, editing and production for 4 titles to press in 3 months. Marketing plans included publicity, PR releases, exclusive stories, media interviews, design and production of all collateral materials, targeted and mass mailings, and media advertising.  Orchestrated, set up and ran booth at the LATFB and BEA, and established representation for Frankfurt.  Developed a branded format for the spine and back cover.  Designed and built virtual sales channel and website.  Currently working pro-bono to reestablish company after principal’s death.

 

Publisher

Founder of Stone In The Surf Press, an independent publisher and business advisor for upcoming authors and indie publishers.  Sold into bookstores/distributors in US, Latin America, and Japan, including book sales to Barnes and Noble.  Owned a small publishing production company producing independent works and in association with R&E Research Associates.

 

Author

The Chronicles of Adrian Smith (series), Charlie’s Treasures, When The Force Isn’t With You and 5 stage plays. Editorial series for Press Democrat Fall 1998.

 

Retail Operations

Experience with major retail chains from the standpoint of a major wholesale supplier.  Retail chains included Wal-Mart, HomeDepot, Kraft and Safeway.  Negotiated and managed slotting fees, co-advertising, stocking charges, returns, packaging, product submissions, and secondary markets.

 

Related Printing

Experience in high-end label production, founding PrintQue, which introduced digital printing into high end wine label printing. Production of text books for 7 years in association with R&E Research Associates in Palo Alto.

 

PUBLICITY 

TV/Cable - Produced a television spot for KQED pledge nights, media spokesperson for the Monterey Bay Hang Gliding Steeple Chase races, coordinated and pilot for Hang Gliding special for Fox.   Publicity campaign resulting in KCNS interview for The Chronicles of Adrian Smith.

Radio - National radio talk show promotion with EMSI emphasizing stations with family values and spiritual demographics.

Internet/Web -Viral web based promotion, website design, production and editing. 

Tradeshows LATFB, BEA, Frankfurt, Graph Expo; Non book- KBIS and National Hardware show Chicago.

Promotions –Designed and produced prototypes/marketing packages and promotions for “gift packs”, designed and produced collateral, scheduled book signings, and promotions aligned with charitable organizations.  Specialty events: Art and Author showings and signings at Napa Valley Opera House. 

Media - Press releases, designed ads, negotiated rates and placement.  Successful placement of releases in numerous publications.

Direct mail List and materials development, mass mailing, and targeted mailings including variable data digital target marketing.

 

BRANDING

Trademark/Brand registration and protection, royalty tracking, revenue/payments, licensing.  Development of private label product lines.  Author branding strategies.

 

NEW VENTURES

Concept development for Valley of the Moon Romances as both a video romance novel series and as a “Reality” television program.  Currently under consideration by a multi-channel cable network.

 

FINANCIAL

In cooperation with marketing and sales, developed detailed advertising budgets.  Created reports for measuring performance of budget vs. actual spending.  Developed advertising measurement matrixes.

Negotiated rates and placement for print and radio.
